ILLINOIS EXPANDS WORKPLACE PROTECTIONS FOR WORKING MOMS
Governor Rauner signed into law an amendment to the Illinois Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act this summer, which requires an employer to provide reasonable break time to an employee who needs to express breast milk for her nursing infant child each time the employee has the need to express milk for one year after the child’s birth. The amendment also requires the employer to provide a safe place at work to pump and not to penalize the employee in any way.
