Josephine (Josie) is a Principal with the firm. She has extensive experience assisting businesses and individuals with complex disputes.

As a litigator, Josie defends businesses in a broad range of industries and legal matters. She handles contract disputes, employment lawsuits, and insurance-related litigation. She also handles business tort lawsuits, including breach of duty of loyalty, tortious interference with contract, unjust enrichment, distribution of confidential information, and directors and officers claims. Josie works for clients on both sides of claims related to fiduciary duty and business loyalty. Josie also has experience handling insurance coverage matters in state and federal courts.

Two of Josie’s recent trials were recognized by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as “Top Defense Wins” for 2018. Josie defended and won a Missouri Merchandising Practices Act class action trial in Jackson County. It was named #15 in the Missouri Lawyers Weekly Top Defense Wins of 2018.

Josie counsels clients on their rights under the law and their existing contracts, particularly as they relate to potential litigation. She informs clients about enforcing their rights through litigated and non-litigated methods. Josie also advises non-profit clients on organizational issues.

Josie has significant experience defending claims and advising clients about the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, including defending consumer class action claims. Josie has also defended many premises liability, personal injury, and property damage matters.

Prior to joining private practice, Josie worked for several years as a judicial clerk in the Eastern District of Missouri Court of Appeals. Josie is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where she served on the Missouri Law Review.

Jackson County, Missouri: Defended and won Missouri Merchandising Practices Act class action trial. Plaintiff sought in excess of 2.5 million dollars in damages (Named #15 in Top Defense Wins of 2018).

Christian County, Missouri: Defended multiple clients against business tort claims and injunctions brought by corporate parties.

District Court of Eastern District of Missouri: On trial team that successfully defended doctor during a 5-day medical malpractice jury trial. Plaintiff sought 1.3 million dollars in damages. (Named #16 in Top Defense Wins of 2018).

St. Louis City, Missouri: On trial team that defended municipal entity in a 5-day jury trial. Argued and won critical motions in limine. Obtained a favorable verdict.

Jackson County: Trial team member for a 3-day insurance coverage bench trial.
District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri: Obtained early dismissal for her client, which was affirmed by 8th Circuit.

St. Louis County: Defended a national brand in a personal injury lawsuit filed after incident with a product display in a grocery store.

District Court of Southern District of Illinois: Defended insurance coverage declaratory judgment and negotiated settlement and dismissal of the suit against her client.
